The Halton Hills Public Library has many kinds of computers available for use by people of all ages.

Desktop Computers

  • You can use a desktop computer in both the Acton Branch and the Georgetown Branch. These PCs have an Internet Browser, Microsoft Office, and the Library Catalogue.
  • Printing and is available from all desktop PCs. For more information, please see Printing and Copying.
  • Users need a library card to sign in. Visitors to the community can request a guest card.

iMac Pro

Desktop Computers – Creativity Centre

  • Computers in the Creativity Centre have video, music and photo editing software.
  • These computers can also be used to transfer VHS tapes to digital formats such as digital files and DVDs, and to scan photographs and photo slides.
  • In addition, these computers have other video and graphic software such as Adobe Photoshop Elements, Ancestry Family Tree Maker and Blender.

Laptops and Chromebooks

  • Laptops and Chromebooks are available to be borrowed for use in the Library. You need a library card to borrow one from any service desk.
  • Laptops and Chromebooks can be borrowed for two hours, once per day, and can be renewed for longer if needed.
  • Each laptop has Microsoft Office and each Chromebook has a suite of Google apps.

iPad Pros to Go

  • iPad Pros are available to borrow to any Halton Hills Public Library card holder who is 18 years or older for a period of 14 days. iPad Pros must be picked up within 24 hours of email or phone notification. 
  • They are pre-loaded with Library Apps, including Lynda.com, Libby, CloudLibrary, GoodReads, Hoopla, Flipster and Freegal. Also included are social media, gaming and wellness apps along with an Apple Pencil. 
  • Overdue fees are a $1/day and the full replacement cost will be charged after the iPad Pro to Go is one WEEK overdue.  
  • Lost, damaged or overdue iPad Pros have a replacement cost of $750.00.
  • Please return iPad Pros to the circulation desk, no book drop returns.

Desktop Chromeboxes for Children

  • Children can use a desktop Chromebox in the Children's Areas of both the Acton and the Georgetown Branch.
  • Printing is not directly available from these computers, but can be done through our Mobile Printing service. Please see Printing and Copying for more information, or ask a staff member for assistance.

Discovery Stations for Children

Discovery Stations are computers pre-loaded with a wide variety of educational computer games, which promote early literacy and math skills.

When Using Public Computers

  • All information saved or not is lost when a session ends. Anything saved in My Documents or on the desktop, along with your Internet search history is permanently deleted at the end of the session.
  • You must agree to the Library's Internet Access Policy to connect to the Library's wifi network.
  • Using your library card number to sign up for a computer is for time-keeping purposes only. All users who sign in remain anonymous and any information related to your session is lost when you sign out.
