Services During the Province-wide Lockdown

In accordance with the Province of Ontario and Halton Region, the Halton Hills Public Library moved into the Province-wide Lockdown as of 12:01 a.m. on December 26, and continues to follow all requirements, including those effective as of 12:01 a.m. on January 14.

For everyone’s safety, in-person services are limited and modified. Here is what’s available at your local library.

Please check back regularly or subscribe to this page to receive updates about available services.

Hours of Operation

The Library is open during regular operating hours for Item Pickup and Virtual Court Services only.

Computer and printing services are not available. Study spaces are not available.

Borrowing Materials

All library materials are available to borrow and can be requested through your Library Card Account. Log into your account, and place holds on the items you would like to pick up.  If you prefer, you can also call the Library and place holds by phone.

When the items are ready for you, you will receive notification by email or phone.

To pick up you items, stop by your library branch anytime during regular operating hours.

Please remember to bring your library card with you to claim your items. If you are picking up items for another family member, please bring that person's library card with you. The card must match the card used to place the holds.

Regular due dates still apply. Fines will not be charged.

Returning Materials

Please return materials in the drop boxes located on the outside of the Library Branches. For larger and delicate items, such as Wifi to Go hotspots and Board Games, that do not fit or are too fragile to return in the drop boxes, please return them to a staff member at the library entrance.

Please note that all items will be quarantined for 72 hours before being checked in and processed. As a result, these items will remain on the patron’s account until the quarantine period is over.

Facility protocols

For anyone visiting the Library Branches, we ask that you keep practicing preventative measures:

Screening

All visitors and staff entering the library branches are screened.

Screening questions adhere to the direction from Halton Region’s Medical Officer of Health to help determine the likelihood of a person’s exposure to the COVID-19 virus.

The screening protocol is available online and the community is encouraged to complete screening in advance and on the day of attending a municipal facility where they will show the ‘green check mark’ on their mobile device. Facility ambassadors will also help with on-site, in-person screening. The screening program will keep an attendance log for 30 days in the event that contact tracing is required by Halton Public Health. After this period, data is automatically deleted.

Masks
As per Halton Region regulations, masks are mandatory at all Town facilities, so we ask that you please wear one in the Library.
Physically distancing
To assist with physical distancing, plexiglass has been installed at all service desks, spacing/distancing markers are throughout the Libraries, and signage has been posted for required spacing in elevators and study rooms. We’ve added additional spacing between furniture and computers.
Cleaning
Maintenance and Library staff regularly disinfect all high-touch surface areas. Hand sanitizer is available for public use when entering and leaving the facility and in the washrooms. Wipes for surfaces are available upon request.

We ask that if you are feeling unwell, please stay home. Items can be renewed online and items ready for pick up can be extended. Simply call us for assistance at 905-873-2681 or log into your library account at www.hhpl.on.ca.
