Celebrate Family Literacy with HHPL

Posted On Wednesday January 12, 2022

Halton Hills Public Library is celebrating the importance of literacy, learning, and connection all month long. Join us for these programs which emphasize the importance of reading, learning and literacy. Visit HHPL’s website calendar to learn more about each program.

Children’s Programming
Join us for Storytime Saturdays, live on Facebook. These virtual programs get the entire family moving, clapping, singing, and learning! We also offer early literacy programming for your child all year long. Visit our website calendar often to see dates and times.

Book Clubs
Keep your children busy and engaged with our Cocoa Club! This book club engages children in a group setting that helps them learn, read, and socialize with others. Our French book club, Club de lecture jr., offers the same, helping children develop and expand their French language skills.

French Storytimes (L’heure to Conte)
Be sure not to miss our virtual French Storytime on YouTube, every second Thursday of each month. These fun storytimes feature not only a story but engaging songs and activities too.

Every Child Ready to Read Workshop
This program helps parents, grandparents and caregivers engage their children in early literacy before they enter school. This critical ‘first teacher approach’ educates parents and caregivers in simple research-based practices like talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. These interactions develop language and pre-reading skills in children from birth to age five. Register on the HHPL website calendar page.

Family Literacy Calendar
Stop by your library and pick up a Family Literacy Calendar. These creative and activity-based calendars provide a daily activity for 365 days of the year. Enjoy playing, reading, talking, singing, counting, writing and much more! It’s a great way to keep your child active and learning all year long. Visit HHPL’s website page to learn more.

Bilingual at Home Scavenger Hunt
Are you ready for a fun and challenging scavenger hunt? Drop by the Library and pick up a bilingual alphabet Scavenger Hunt that you can play at home. Share a picture on social media of you and your family on the hunt by using the hashtags: #HHPL #HaltonHills #FamilyLiteracyDay.

Don’t forget, you can visit us online 24/7 at hhpl.on.ca to place a hold on items for pick up in branch or drop by the Library to browse collections, games, movies, and resources. Engage with us through social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube). Remember to sign up for the 2022 Winter Reading Challenge on Beanstack (hhpl.beanstack.org) or use the Beanstack app.
