Inksters/Inklings Creative Writing Project

Halton Hills Public Library presents our 9th annual INK WRITING PROJECT, a creative writing contest for young people in grades 4-8 (INKSTERS) and grades 9-12 (INKLINGS).

Eight prizes to be won!

Basic rules:

Entrant Eligibility:

  • All entrants must either reside in or attend school in Halton Hills.

Writing Categories:

  • Poetry
  • Short stories

Age/Grade Ranges:

  • Inksters, grades 4-6
  • Inksters, grades 7-8
  • Inklings, grades 9-10
  • Inklings, grades 11-12 (Note: the phrase “grade” denotes the grade you are next entering, with the exception of Grade 12, where it can also denote the grade you just completed.)

Winners:

  • Eight winners will be selected (four age/grade ranges x two writing categories).

Submissions:

  • All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not have been published elsewhere.
  • Each entrant is limited to two entries of any kind (e.g. a poem and a short story).
  • Short stories should be no longer than 1000 words (approximately 4 pages).
  • Poems should be no longer than 20 lines.

Formatting:

  • We will format your entry to match our formatting guidelines.

Title:

  • The title must appear at the beginning of the work.
  • Title pages should not be included.

Your name:

  • Please do not include your name in the text of your entry, just in the electronic submission form

Language:

  • Entries are accepted in English only.

Permissions:

  • Through submitting their work, entrants give permission to use their names and/or images for promotion purposes.

Dates and times:

  • Entries are accepted from June 1st to July 29th, closing at 5:00 p.m.
  • Prizes for the winning entries will be presented on Oct. 17th.

Winning entries:

  • All works will be judged anonymously.
  • The decision of the judges is final.
  • Winning entries will be published on our website and in a booklet. Winners will receive a free copy of the booklet.
  • The first prize winner in each age/type categories will receive a gift certificate prize of $50.
  • All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.
