Notes:

List of Indexed documents: There are a significant number of documents on this site which don't fall within the scope of these searches. Use this link to see a list of what documents are included in which searches.

Advanced searches: Use the links to go to screens that have additional search options specific to the source.

The search is experimental. Not all sources are indexed to the same extent. For example, the Newspaper search cannot distinguish between ships, people and places yet. Not all names have been identified in the imaged documents (with the scans of the original pages)

Best results are likely to occur with a single word search.
Beware that spellings of names is unpredictable in some of these documents (Oades or Odes or Calvin and Calven) and names of ships may sometimes appear as one word or two (Mayflower/May Flower), and that ship names may be abbreviated in various ways (General Anthony Wayne, General Wayne, Gen. Wayne, Anthony Wayne, Wayne). Some place names are routinely spelled (or misspelled) in a variety of ways (Sacketts Harbor, etc. or Genessee). Some names are repeated on different parts of the lakes (Presque Isle, Long Point and Grand River being among the least distinctive place names.) Some words are routinely spelled differently on either side of the border. There may also be mistakes in the original or transcriptions.
